SPX 2011

I went to the Small Press Expo this past weekend with Jen Tong, Li-Or Zaltman and Sara Varon. (I have to add that Sara's new book, Bake Sale, is a pleasure to read--go get a copy!)

Here is a photo of my comic book sketchbook in the hotel the morning we left (I ran out of paper oh no!).

The second is a photo of me nervously and excitedly waiting in line for Nate Powell to autograph my fresh copy of Any Empire.  This book is really wonderful. Nate is a very nice guy and said kind things about my comic, which was awesome--he is one of my favorite artists. It was an inspiring weekend full of big crazy comic books. I recommend looking at Anders Nilsen's Big Questions and Craig Thompson's Habibi, just by size alone they boggle the mind with their ambition and raise the bar for making long-form narrative comics.

Eric C: Drawings for 30 Bucks

(Eric Clausen's Abe Lincoln)

Eric was in an epic bicycle accident around a month ago, and to raise money for his medical bill (and celebrate the fact that he still has use of his drawing facilities) he's offering a drawing of whatever you wish, for 30 dollars, post paid.

Check out the ones he's done so far here.

I am fond of "Obama Fighting a Dragon" and the nice radiator cover for Sandra.

John Breiner Show

The very talented John Breiner is in a group show next Friday in Bushwick. Should be excellent!

I had the great good fortune of meeting John at AdHoc when Yoko Furusho showed there. I had read about him in Anthem magazine when I was a humble bookseller and just starting my art school adventure in NYC. As it turns out, he's the nicest dude ever (in addition to being king of the xerox transfer).

Here's the press release:

Next friday me and a number of great artists are showing @ eastern District..
The goal of the show is affordable art, and with another opening
happening right next door @ adhoc art, it should be quite a night...

Eastern District Presents:
"Plenty of Room on the Couch"
Curated by Jesse Lee Denning

Opening reception - Friday June 26th. 7 - 10pm
Special Guest DJ Todd Weinstock a.k.a. Toddlerone (Cubic Zirconia)

The goal of this exhibition is not only to highlight the vast array of
talented artists in a summer spectacle but to also allow our peers,
friends, and all around art lovers to purchase and own art that is
both affordable and quality work!
