Here's another piece for the Portland Mercury, about the tobacco industry in Oregon, roughly paraphrased. This was really fun to draw. Pascal was relatively well-behaved during the creative process i.e. camped out on my lap as I brandished my tablet pen.

Charlie

I'm making a comic book and some etchings based on people I have met in the city that have been or are homeless. Charlie is usually on the Bowery, near some nice graffiti. Banksy spotted him last year and had him pose for this poster:

It was weird seeing this poster at the Sunshine Cinema, only a few blocks away from where it was taken. I asked him about it and he said he got paid $100. That made me kinda mad but Charlie said it was okay. I see Charlie on the way to work most days if the weather is good. He told me sometimes the other men at the housing place try to put curses on him. I tell him that I am sending him good thoughts. I think I gave him California Raisin Hands in the drawing.

This piece was made to accompany a news story about a cop who gets his badge back after getting the boot. The AD at The Portland Mercury, Justin "Scrappers" Morrison is a pretty funny guy, and super talented, check out this cool interview.

There's another cool thing to read, about the Best/Worst Mercury covers. If you scroll down to nearly the end you can find his musings, which I found to be thought-provoking and hysterical.

I Like You

I just finished these silkscreen cards. This was a belated valentine book idea that turned into a promotional piece. I printed a few on white, hot press stock, and sent them out to my favorite art directors,  though the scan is from the edition I pulled on less-fancy cream colored card stock.

I'm working in the printshop again and making comics BUT painting is really great. I didn't paint enough last year. Still banjo-ing and I went rock climbing, and did lots of other stuff between this post and the last one, so don't get sad. Everything is okay. Happy New Year!
