Brooklyn Comics Fest

I went to the Brooklyn Comics and Graphics Festival. There was alot of newsprint this year, which I am okay with because I couldn't afford alot of the nice artist books or perfect bound copies. I wanted to buy alot of other stuff but restricted myself to supporting the people I knew there, and I'm using the stuff I bought as christmas gifts. I hope you like weird staple-bound, homemade stories.

Also here's the other embroideries that are up right now at Destination.

Destination Art Market this Wednesday

I'm showing a few new embroidery pieces at a space in the Meatpacking District. The space is always warm and bright on cold nights, it's a good way to spend a Wednesday evening and worth the trip if you're free. Plus I'll be there, which is pretty great. The work is up till early January, so if you can't make it out Wednesday, get a cup of hot cocoa and come by on the weekend, it's close to the High Line Park.

Here's the official press release:

Canadianz vs Americanz

Canadian Illustrators beat the pants off us Americans. Seriously. And they're cuter. Dang.

Meet our freakishly talented northern neighbors:

Genevieve Simms
Josh J Holinaty
Michael Byers
Michael DeForge
Julie Doucet
Jillian Tamaki

I am suspicious that Leanne Shapton may be, since she made all those really pretty Toronto drawings.

Kurt McRobert's new promo card

I was highly amused by this promo card. Call me juvenile if you'd like. I really like the way it's drawn too.
Here's his website for good measure.

Jason Holley : New Website

I am super excited to see Jason Holley has launched his new website. He's amazing!
I was sick the other day, expect a big post on monday. I think this means I am uploading 4 or more new pieces to keep the one-a-day thing going.

Ready for Halloween. It feels like summer outside.

Eric White at Sloan 9/16

Eric White at Sloan this week!
I am especially interested in that Hot Rats painting. I bet these will be excellent. Eric has had a ton of international shows lately and was at Art Basel Miami this year. It's good to hear he's having a show in the city that I can go check out in person. See you there!

John Breiner Show + James Blagden brain fallout

John Breiner has some sweet work up at Minibar in Carroll Gardens, plus the bartender is handsome, you should go check it out.

I met another awesome dude via John, the ridiculously talented James Blagden. He's like Philip Burke if Philip Burke were really into psychedelic death rays and apple bottom jeans.

Lost at E Minor article here.

Here's some of his work via a cool interview by Format Magazine:

Also, John's curated a show that's up in late October, with his and James' (and many cool others') work, be sure to mark your calendar...more info soon.

Embroidery in Progress

I have had an "auto-tune the news" song stuck in my head. I would encourage you to seek the videos out online but then you'd be mad for having the same dilemma. They sure are catchy.

a view of the new studio.

An embroidery piece (and sketch) I'm working on for the Lucky Gallery show.

My puppet was transformed into a marionette on friday, thanks to Diana and Shiraj. His instruments need some love but I think he's coming together and is very charming.
