John Breiner Show

The very talented John Breiner is in a group show next Friday in Bushwick. Should be excellent!

I had the great good fortune of meeting John at AdHoc when Yoko Furusho showed there. I had read about him in Anthem magazine when I was a humble bookseller and just starting my art school adventure in NYC. As it turns out, he's the nicest dude ever (in addition to being king of the xerox transfer).

Here's the press release:

Next friday me and a number of great artists are showing @ eastern District..
The goal of the show is affordable art, and with another opening
happening right next door @ adhoc art, it should be quite a night...

Torapote Paintings

These two new paintings will be in the TORAPOTE show at Destination Art Space. The opening is this Wednesday, please come if you're free and in the city that evening!

I was having a very hard time with the Bo Diddley painting and nearly scrapped it. It still could use some work but I'm surprised it turned better than it was going there for awhile. Don't give up!

The wonderful Ben Shamback once told me he sometimes tells himself to paint for just 15 more minutes when a painting is veering toward the crappy side. After those 15 minutes you can press on for another few more minutes until you forget the self-imposed deadline and end up painting your way out of a hole. It's hard to do but usually works.

Here's some more brush pen drawings. I did these a few weeks ago; they're freshly excavated from the mysterious pile of rubble on my drawing table.

Destination Art Space, a gallery within an upscale boutique merging fashion and art, is excited to announce a group exhibition entitled “TORAPOTE - ride it! –“. This exhibition features nine New York based artists’ paintings, photographs, drawings, and a personal collection of vintage Japanese motorcycles.

The High Line finally opened after their long efforts, and this is one of the historical moments in New York. Plus, summer is around the corner! A lot of outdoor events are longing to see you. So, let’s go out with your TORAPOTE (means ‘transportation’ here)!

What would you ride? Trains, cars, motorcycles, airplanes, bikes, horses, or something else?

For this exhibition, the gallery walls will be filled with varied artwork of TORAPOTE by the selected artists. Perhaps, you will be able to discover a unique idea to fit your needs. This is an early summer exhibition that explores a broad meaning of transportation.

*Special thanks to Rodney Dickson for his motorcycle collection as a part of installation.

Quetzalcoatl is the prince of parties

Sarah Ritch was right. Quetzalcoatl rules. I think this will be part of my next series.

The Birth of Venus show at Skummi + Co. on Saturday night was spectacular! Enjoy some photos!

Also, I didn't realize that Kurt McRobert has a website now. Follow his blog as well!

I'm printing a book of drawings, I don't think they will be ready for mocca, I may do a few xerox versions. Stay tuned!
